Work: Young in a career, about 6 years out of school. Career going well. Already held a few jobs that have been building on each other.
Life: Recently engaged, wedding less than 12 months away. Buying a house, too.
Deep breath. This is a lot.
Work: Continue to do well in your job. Don’t let the life pressures affect your performance. But don’t even think about more than just doing your job very well. Don’t think about your career, e.g., your visibility to the broader management team. Don’t think you need to change jobs in the next few years. Re-engage on that later.
Life: Plan for and have a great weeding. Figure out your partner and you, both as individuals and as a couple. Learn how daunting home ownership is.
In my humble opinion, there is no Option Two.
