We all spend a lot of time thinking about work-life issues and what we can do to improve our work and our personal lives. I don't mean to lessen the importance of this, but I just finished an incredible book and it is worth stepping back, thinking globally and getting some perspective.
The book is "Half the Sky" by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn and I can't stop thinking about it. Whether it is sex trafficking (sex slavery!), honor killings or female infanticide the horror along with a vision of hope pervades this book. The message of empowering women and girls to help fight poverty and extremism is very compelling.
In the United States, the Thanksgiving holiday is behind us but I have to pause again and be thankful for all we have, including a brilliant daughter who has so many opportunities in front of her. As we get to the Christmas (and more) holidays, let's be sure that our love for others goes beyond our family and friends.
Please look into Half the Sky. Battling gender inequality needs global focus. And that's women and men, please.
